The times I have walked with my brothers and sisters in faith, raising our voices in hope for a better world, have been among the most spiritual experiences in my life. In these pieces, I've tried to convey the profound sense of dedication and uplift which attends peaceful demonstrations. Viewers might recognize the dove, symbol of reconciliation and peace, soaring over and through these spaces, as well as raised hands, raised voices, raised flags, and the rhythm of marching feet. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said nonviolent action could create positive change through "creative tension." Imagine if everyone became willing to literally step out with neighbors and strangers alike, living witnesses to the power to create change based on our commitment to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all.
